Stonyfield Farm in Londonderry, New Hampshire is the largest producer of organic yogurt products in the United States. It has a variety of yogurt styles and yogurt drinks that promote healthy living and a healthy lifestyle.
The local farmers or (more accurately) the local cows that give their milk to Stonyfield Farms for use in their yogurt products, have a by-product that the farm uses in a very “green” way.
Cow manure at the farm is stored in a large digester tank and the methane gas produced as it decays is compressed, cleaned and burned to produce clean, green electrical power and heat. This green power is used at the farm to help Stonyfield make healthy products for their eco-conscience consumers.
The Earthwise team met with Stonyfield Farm and members of the construction team to size and layout the correct Capstone Microturbine to suit their needs. The turbine was delivered set up and is now providing power and heat to the farm ( and lucky cows ) saving the maker of organic yogurt thousands of dollars in gas and electrical costs. It benefits the environment because burned methane gas is actually less harmful to our ozone than unburned methane.
So, Stonyfield farm can make the best tasting, organic yogurt around and contribute toward the reduction of ozone-depleting gases in our environment. That keeps the cows very happy.
